“Unfortunately our little shop in the heart of Flemington has come to a close,” reads a Saturday message posted to the Facebook page of Flemington Coffee Shop on Reaville Avenue.

The post goes on to describe the past year as “extremely challenging and financially catastrophic,” stating that the pandemic “forever changed” the shop’s routines but that “multiple variables” ultimately influenced the decision.

Flemington Coffee Shop, which opened more than 50 years ago and serves much more than coffee, was known for its large selection of breakfast, lunch and Latin delicacies. Among favorites were the Cuban, beef and chicken empanadas, reuben sandwiches, 8 oz. burgers, gyros and more.

“Flemington family, friends and loved ones. I thank you for accepting us into your hearts and your town,” the message says.

“We greatly appreciate your support that each and everyone has provided over the last year.”

The message concludes by providing a glimmer of hope for the shop’s Latin food fans:

“Empanada lovers, we look forward to developing a new way to provide you with that Latin menu you love.”
